Nairy Baghramian's Biography
Nairy Baghramian is an Iranian-born, German-based contemporary artist best known for her sculptures, installations, and performances. Her work is often informed by her experience as an immigrant, her research into the discourses of power and her questioning of the complex relationship between body and space. Born in 1971, she studied art at both the University of Tehran in Iran and the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany. Baghramian has exhibited widely in galleries and museums around the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo, the Tate Modern in London, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Her work has been included in numerous group exhibitions, including the Istanbul Biennial and the Shanghai Biennial. In 2021, she was awarded the Wolfgang Hahn Prize, which recognized her for her unique approach to sculpture and installation. Her work is held in the permanent collections of several prominent art institutions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
