Mona Hatoum's Biography

Mona Hatoum is a contemporary artist from Lebanon who works primarily in installation art, performance/happening, video, and sculpture. She was born in 1952 and is best known for her politically charged works that explore themes such as displacement, displacement of people and their identities, and the power of violence. Her works have been showcased in major exhibitions and biennials around the world, including the 1st Beijing Biennial (2022), Paths III (2022) at the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea (CGAC) in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, Hot Spot: Caring For A Burning World (2022) at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna (GNAM) in Rome, Italy, and Eclettica! (2022) at the Museo Ettore Fico (MEF) in Turin, Italy. Her works often use everyday objects to explore the relationship between the personal and the political, while also exploring themes of power, control, and identity.
