Michaela Melián's Biography
Michaela Melián is a German contemporary artist, born in 1956. She works primarily in drawing and installation art. She studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Munich and began exhibiting her work in the mid-1990s. Her work often deals with the issues of identity, memory and history. She has exhibited her work in a number of countries, including Germany, Denmark, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States. She has been awarded numerous awards, including the German State Prize for Visual Arts in 2009, and the Bavarian State Prize for Visual Arts in 2011. Her work is held in a number of public collections, including the Fonds National d'Art Contemporain in France, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa.
