Lee Friedlander's Biography

Lee Friedlander is an American photographer and artist best known for his pioneering work in black-and-white photography and documentary photography. He was born in 1934 in Aberdeen, Washington. Friedlander is recognized as one of the most influential and iconic photographers of the post-war era. He is known for his candid and often humorous photographs of everyday life and the American landscape. His work has been exhibited in many major museums and galleries throughout the world and he has published over twenty monographs. Friedlander's work has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the National Medal of Arts in 2001.
