Koen Vanmechelen's Biography

Koen Vanmechelen is a contemporary Belgian artist, born in 1965. He is best known for his painting and sculptural works. His art combines elements from different cultures, creating a unique visual language. He has exhibited his work at numerous international galleries and museums, such as the Bozar Museum in Brussels, the Barbican Centre in London, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Pompidou Centre in Paris. He has also received numerous awards, including the International Art Prize in 2012, the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013, and the European Prize for Culture in 2016. His works explore themes such as identity, culture, and diversity, and often feature animals, such as chickens, as a metaphor for humanity.
