Kimsooja's Biography

Kimsooja is a South Korean contemporary artist and was born in 1957 in Daegu, South Korea. She has had an extensive career as an artist, showing her work in solo exhibitions since the mid-1980s. Her work often focuses on gender and identity, as well as personal and cultural relationships. Kimsooja's work often combines elements from different media, such as photography, installation, performance/happening, and time-based media. Her work has been exhibited in numerous international institutions, such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Modern in London. In 2021, her work was featured in the exhibition, The House of Dust Collections Au Féminin (1960-2020) at the Musée d'art moderne et contemporain de Saint-Étienne (MAMC) in Saint-Etienne, France. In 2022, Kimsooja will be part of the Bangkok Art Biennale with her exhibition Chaos: Calm.
