Kerry James Marshall's Biography
Kerry James Marshall is an American artist who was born in 1955 in Birmingham, Alabama. He attended the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles and has remained active in the art world since the 1980s. He is best known for his large-scale, vibrant paintings, which often explore the African American experience and identity. He is a major figure in the Black artistic Renaissance, and has had his work featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Marshall has received numerous awards, including the MacArthur Genius Grant and the National Medal of Arts. He currently lives and works in Chicago.
