Keiichi Tanaami's Biography

Keiichi Tanaami is a Japanese artist known for his vibrant, eclectic and often psychedelic works of art. He was born in 1936 in Tokyo and graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts in 1959. His early works focused on the concept of “eccentricity”, which he believed was an essential part of the artist’s character. He then went on to explore a variety of media, including collage, drawing, video, painting and poster art. His works often draw inspiration from his own life experiences and the pop culture of the time. He has exhibited in galleries and museums all over the world, and his works are held in various important collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
