Jochen Gerz's Biography

Jochen Gerz (born 1940) is a German-born artist whose work has been exhibited internationally, and is best known for his involvement in the NO!art movement. He has been active since the 1960s and has explored a wide range of media and disciplines, from photography and video to performance, sculpture and installation. He has often used his own body as a medium for his work, as well as addressing social and political issues. Gerz has exhibited his work in various galleries and museums, including the Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig (MUMOK) in Vienna, Austria and the Kunsthaus Graz in Graz, Austria. He has also received numerous awards, including the German National Prize for Art and Culture in 2013, and the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2018.
