Jan Vercruysse's Biography

Jan Vercruysse (born 1948) is a Belgian contemporary artist based in Antwerp, Belgium. He is best known for his sculpture and installation art. His work often examines the boundaries between life and death, light and dark, and the physical and metaphysical worlds. He has exhibited extensively throughout Europe, the United States and Japan, and has been the recipient of numerous awards and grants. Vercruysse's sculptures often feature everyday objects, such as chairs, tables and beds, that are transformed into abstract shapes and forms, often with an underlying dark or morbid theme. He has been inspired by many avant-garde artists, including Duchamp, Dadaism, and Surrealism. Vercruysse's most recent works are installations that explore the concept of death and the human condition. He is currently represented by Gallery Krinzinger in Vienna, Austria.
