Jan Fabre's Biography
Jan Fabre is a Belgian contemporary artist, performance artist, playwright, director, designer, and visual artist. Born in 1958 in Antwerp, he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, receiving his degree in 1981. He is known for his experimental works that often involve drawing, sculpture, installation, and performance. He is also a playwright, writing and directing plays for his company, Troubleyn. His works are often focused on exploring the boundaries between art and life, and he often uses his own body as the material for his performances. Fabre's works have been exhibited at numerous institutions, including the Louvre in Paris, the Tate Modern in London, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
