Eric Fischl's Biography
Eric Fischl is an American artist best known for his figurative paintings, which explore the complexities of adult relationships. He is a representative of the Neo-Expressionist art movement. Born in 1948, he grew up in suburban New York and attended the Phoenix School of Design in Manhattan. Fischl moved to Chicago in 1974, where he earned an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1978. He has since lived and worked in New York, Los Angeles and Long Island.
Fischl has had numerous solo exhibitions at galleries and institutions worldwide, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin. He has also participated in group exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C., among many others. His works can be found in public and private collections around the world.
