Doug Aitken's Biography
Doug Aitken is an American contemporary visual artist, filmmaker, and musician. He was born in 1968 in Redondo Beach, California. His most recognizable works are in the medium of photography, video installation, sculpture, and installation art. Through his works he explores themes of identity, memory, and the natural environment. He has had numerous solo exhibitions and has participated in biennials worldwide, including the 1st Beijing Biennial in 2022. Aitken has also been awarded several prestigious awards, such as the Hugo Boss Prize, the International Award for the Arts from the U.S. State Department, and the MacArthur Fellowship.
