David Salle's Biography
David Salle is an American painter and printmaker born in 1952 in Norman, Oklahoma. Salle attended the California Institute of the Arts where he studied under the likes of John Baldessari and began to develop his distinct style. Salle's neo-expressionist paintings and prints often feature bold colors, flattened figures, and a variety of different images layered atop one another. He has been featured in numerous exhibitions, including the Whitney Biennial, the Venice Biennale, and the Documenta exhibition in Kassel, Germany. Salle is also an accomplished set and costume designer for theater, opera and dance, as well as a writer and director of video art and films. He currently lives and works in New York City.
