Christine Sun Kim's Biography

Christine Sun Kim is a deaf, American artist, born in 1980. She grew up in Los Angeles, California and attended the California School for the Deaf in Riverside. She is known for her work, which explores the relationship between sound, language, and identity. She works in a variety of media, including performance, video, sculpture, and drawing. Sun Kim has had solo exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. She has also exhibited her work at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. In 2015, she was awarded the Herb Alpert Award in the Arts for her work. She has also been the recipient of a Rema Hort Mann Foundation grant and a Creative Capital grant.
