Candida Höfer's Biography
Candida Höfer is a German photographer known for her large-scale photographs of public places and spaces, such as libraries, galleries, and other cultural institutions. She is a member of the Becher school, a group of photographers who used a detached and objective approach to explore industrial and urban landscapes. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne and the National Museum of Modern Art Kyoto (MOMAK). In 2022, she will have solo exhibitions at both the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein and MOMAK. Höfer was born in 1944 in Eberswalde, Germany. She studied photography at the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf and was a student of Bernd and Hilla Becher. She has since gone on to become one of the most important figures in contemporary photography.
