Candice Lin's Biography

Candice Lin (born 1979) is an American artist whose work addresses issues of colonialism, racism, and ecology. Her works span a range of media, including sculpture, drawing, video, installation, and performance. Working with a variety of materials, Lin often employs the use of traditional craft techniques to explore themes of history, power, labor, and materiality. Lin has exhibited her work in a number of international exhibitions, including the New Museum Triennial in New York, the Beijing Biennale, the Whitney Biennial, and the Istanbul Biennial. She also has had solo exhibitions at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, the List Visual Arts Center in Cambridge, MA, and the Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver, Canada. Her work is currently held in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Hammer Museum. In addition to her studio practice, Lin also works with a variety of organizations to promote social and environmental justice. She is a founding board member of the Los Angeles-based arts organization Machine Project, and a long-time collaborator with the local organization XM Proyecto.
