Berlinde De Bruyckere's Biography
Berlinde De Bruyckere is a Belgian sculptor and installation artist born in 1964. She is best known for her works made from animal hides, wax, resin, metal, and other organic materials. Her works explore themes of mortality, suffering, and death. De Bruyckere has been the subject of solo exhibitions throughout Europe and the United States, and her works have been included in group shows in Europe, Japan, and the United States. She has received numerous awards, including the Prix de l'Académie Royale de Belgique (2005), the International Sculpture Center's Outstanding Artist Award (2006), and the Prix de la Biennale Internationale des Arts Contemporains (2008). De Bruyckere currently lives and works in Ghent, Belgium.
