Barbara Kruger's Biography

Barbara Kruger is an American conceptual artist known for her combination of textual messages, photography, and bold graphic design. Born in 1945 in Newark, New Jersey, Kruger studied at Syracuse University and Parsons School of Design before she began her career as a graphic designer in New York City in the late 1970s. Her work is often politically charged, drawing attention to the ways in which power structures shape the lives of individuals and communities. Kruger's work is heavily featured in art exhibitions worldwide. In 2020, her work was featured in the exhibition The House Of Dust Collections Au Féminin in Saint-Étienne, France, and in 2022, she will be the subject of a solo exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston. Her work can also be found in the permanent collections of many renowned institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.
