Barbara Kasten's Biography
Barbara Kasten is an American photographer and artist who was born in 1936. She is best known for her work in New Color Photography, which she began exploring in the 1970s. Kasten has had numerous solo exhibitions, including those at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Her work has also been featured in a number of group exhibitions, including the Whitney Biennial in 1982. Kasten's photography focuses on abstracted, geometric shapes and forms, often using the physical space of a gallery or studio to create her images. She has also worked with more traditional photographic techniques, such as collaging and darkroom developing. Kasten is considered a pioneer in the fields of both photography and abstraction.
