Andreas Mühe's Biography
Andreas Mühe is a German photographer and visual artist. He was born in 1979 and is considered a part of the ultra-contemporary movement. He studied at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig and at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne.
Mühe's work often focuses on the issues of identity and community, often exploring the physical and psychological aspects of a person in relation to the environment they inhabit. He has explored these themes in his series of photographs titled "Hinterland" which shows people in a variety of public and private places. He has also explored themes of memory and nostalgia in his portrait series of the East German landscape.
Mühe has had numerous exhibitions and his work has been featured in publications such as the New York Times Magazine, Der Spiegel, and the British Journal of Photography. In 2021, he was awarded the Kulturpreis des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt for his work.
