Andrea Bowers's Biography
Andrea Bowers is an American contemporary artist born in 1965. She is best known for her time-based media and drawings. She studied at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles and received her BFA from the California Institute of the Arts.
Bowers is interested in exploring the relationship between art, politics and identity. She has exhibited her work internationally at venues such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara. Her work has also been featured in numerous publications such as Artforum, The New Yorker, and Frieze.
In 2020, Bowers was the recipient of the Anonymous Was A Woman Award, which recognizes the achievements of women artists over the age of 40. She has also been the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including the Creative Capital Award, the California Community Foundation Fellowship, and the Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant.
Bowers is currently based in Los Angeles, California and has upcoming exhibitions at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and the Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna in Milan, Italy.
