Agnes Denes's Biography
Agnes Denes is an American artist, born in 1938 in Budapest, Hungary. She came to the United States in 1961 and has since developed a prolific career spanning nearly six decades. Her work ranges from sculpture to painting, installation and land art, and explores themes of ecology, environmentalism, and humanity’s place in the natural world. Denes has exhibited widely, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Venice Biennale, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She is best known for her 1980 installation Wheatfield—A Confrontation, which she created in the middle of Manhattan’s financial district. Denes is a pioneer of eco art, and her work continues to explore the intricate relationship between man and nature.
