Adrian Piper's Biography
Adrian Piper (born Adrian Margaret Smith, September 20, 1948) is an American conceptual artist and philosopher. She is known for her pioneering work in performance, installation, video, and sculpture. Her work often addresses issues of race, gender, and identity. Piper has exhibited her work at numerous international venues, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Walker Art Center, and Documenta IX. She is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the MacArthur Fellowship, the Golden Lion Award (Venice Biennale), and the Guggenheim Fellowship.
