The Atelier Stitch Joins YES Art Works for Retaken

YES Art Works invited special guest designer, Giselle LaFrance owner of Atelier Stitch to assist in the creation of original fashion designs at our studios. YES Art Works has partnered with people throughout the community for an art/fashion event, Retaken – A Fashion Crawl. Scheduled for July 6 during the First Friday Art Walk in Portland and organized by Mary Jo Marquis, Art Program Manager for YES Art Works, the event enlists professional fashion designers and seamstresses from Atelier Stitch and other local businesses to assist artists with disabilities in designing and sewing fashions for the show. All the garments have been created from recycled or repurposed materials.

Venues in the heart of the arts district along Congress and High Streets will host the fashions during the Art Walk, including Atelier Stitch, Lalo Boutique, The Merchant Company, and Material Objects. Each host venue features two models wearing the fashions, accompanied by the artist/designer to talk about the clothing. To add to the fun, the designs will be auctioned the night of the event in support of the artist and YES Art Works.
